Is Purpose a Thing?

I have some new subscribers, so I would like to reintroduce myself. My name is Sham. I specialize in wellness getaways but I have direct access to many vendors/destinations. I started Passport 2 Happy to book people to “happy destinations”. However, as I struggled with my own happiness, I realized that the name is deeper than that. Happiness isn’t found in a quick getaway. We can sometimes travel to temporarily escape from our problems, but if we do not fix what is within, it will follow no matter where we travel.

In 2017, I left the only place I have ever lived, Brooklyn, NY, and I moved to NC with my mom and then three year old. I’m a big dreamer and achiever as well, but by the end of that year, I felt like I completely failed this big move. The following year, I was stressed about family members’ health, a career I didn’t have, finances, debt that I accumulated, and then my own health started to scare me (stress can literally make you sick)!

As we get older we dwell on finding purpose. I worried about my purpose A LOT. As I neared my 40s; a single mom, not in an enjoyable job, the urge became stronger to know what am I supposed to be doing with my life? What should I have done with my life? I hit so many accomplishments in my life but when you’re deep down in your regrets, nothing seems positive. I’ve learned that it’s ok to not know your why or how to get to it. All the pieces that you think are a disaster right now, will take shape into something that makes sense to YOU. You just have to believe in yourself!

I was gifted a meditation book. The first meditation said, “There is power sometimes in not knowing. There is power in letting go. Power in stillness. Power in trust. The action you are to take will appear. Timely. Clearly. What you’re to do will become clear.” This came when I was still beating myself down with limiting beliefs. As tears fell from my eyes, I discovered that purpose is not a thing. It’s not something to be found. That’s where we all go wrong. You can build it to whatever you want. That’s the key.

For me, I am creating an environment for myself and others around me to intentionally live in true happiness. Make yourself a priority.
