I want to believe that we are all doing well in this pandemic, but I know that everyone deals with experiences their own way and we have encountered different outcomes. I’m not a therapist or professional writer, but this year, I felt the need to be an inspiration with my words and actions. I often try to see the brighter side of things because I’ve made it through some dark times in my life. I don’t want to offer advice on something I’ve never experienced. However, we all have a perspective on how we view things. My struggles may not seem like a struggle to others, that’s why they’re mine and your struggles are yours. The objective is to see beyond the struggle, pain, or circumstance. Sometimes we can be our worst critic. When was the last time you’ve felt proud of yourself without validation from others? Look at yourself in the mirror and be proud of the things you've overcome. We don’t always have it together but that’s ok. This is a different time than many of us have experienced, especially our children. I can say that we are adaptable people. We have learned to work from home, homeschool, buy groceries online, and find new ways to entertain ourselves (I bought a karaoke microphone that drives my son nuts lol). When will it ever be safe to send our children to school/camp/daycare? To go back to work? To stop wearing masks at stores? Is virtual living going to be our norm? I don’t have all the answers as there is so much uncertainty, so my strategy for peace is to not try to figure out answers that are beyond my control. I believe that when the time comes, we will make the best decision for ourselves and our families. We will adapt and get through this circumstance one day at a time.

Homeschooling hasn't been the best experience for me. After my son's 2-hour online class, I needed something else to occupy his time while I work. I bought workbooks, flashcards, a drawing book for fun, and he has online reading/quizzes. Some days are productive with breaks in between; other days aren't. The material is available and we are learning to make the best of each day. I am learning to keep my sanity by easing up on the strict schedule and giving a little more free/screen time. We both need more time for fun (although my fun is sometimes low-key educational lol).
